Xianghe grand epoch city

By CRI Reporter Chu Daye

The Grand Epoch City lies in Xianghe, a county 50 kilometers in the southeast of Beijing and along the Beijing-Shenyang Highway. The county is within close reach for tourists visiting from Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei province. October 14-15, the G-20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting will be held there.

The Grand Epoch City, measures over 200 hectares in size and is designed to be a roughly 1/6 model of old Beijing, back when the city still had walls. It contains temples, fountains, winding little hutongs, placid ponds, and a myriad of other amenities. The scenic area also contains a 27-hole golf course which caters to the needs of friends coming from afar. The entire scenic area is surrounded by an enormous wall, modeled on the old Beijing city wall.

Grand Epoch City is an amazing place for visitors who are interested in having a look at what Old Beijing looked like. Hundreds of thousands of replicas of old Beijing are displayed inside the city's wall. Every roof is adorned with ornate sculpture; every building graced with hand-painted scenes of battle and hunting and courtly life; expansive ponds are bordered by exquisitely crafted covered walkways and little gazebos, giving visitors the chance to see bronze statues of mythical monsters with bulging, scaly haunches.

The Grand Epoch City also offers sporting facilities including a bowling alley, a swimming pool, table tennis, badminton courts, tennis courts, and even a climbing wall, all built indoors.

Even with the opening of G20 Meeting, the Grand Epoch City would soon be another tourist attraction that adds charm to Beijing. (Photo Source: baidu.com)
