Facing Jinjiang River, the mountain is over 90 meters high above the sea level, with three peaks forming an enclosure. Among them there lies "White Cloud Valley". The three peaks are beautiful for the green trees, clear streams, and the singing of birds.
The West Peak is called Scholar's Peak because Poet Qin Xi of the Tang Dynasty became a recluse here. On the top of the peak stands a stone Buddha carved in 965 by Chen Hongjin, so it is also called "Stone Buddha Peak". The undamaged "Yintan Pavilion" protecting the stone Buddha was built in the Qing Dynasty, with the inscription of "Peculiar Cave" on its lintel. On the mountian there lie such sights as "Stone Basin", "Fanjing (Translating Buddhist Scriptures) Rock", "Yitiao Rock", "Wudeng Cave", etc, all of which has its own story. "Fanjing Rock" is said to be the place where an Indian monk coming in the Southern Dynasty translated Buddhist Scriptures. The East Peak has other names, such as "Unicorn Peak" and "Peak of Prime Minister Jiang", because when Prime Minister Jiang Gongfu of the Tang Dynasty was banished from the court, he came to settle down here. Here there also lie "Terrace of Prime Minister Jiang" and the grave of Jiang Gongfu, which are still well preserved.
Besides, "there is not a single place that does not offer an inscription." The number of these stone inscriptions amounts to 75, including 13 about praying for wind, 15 pieces about beautiful sights, 11 pieces of poems recording the travel to the mountain, 29 pieces of names of famous personnels who visited here and 7 recording the construction of the scenic spot. Among them, the most significant are 10 pieces on worshipping the Sea Goddess to pray for good luck in the voyages, which were carved during the period from 1174 to 1266. They are the rare relics of the "Maritime Silk Road" in Quanzhou Ciy.
